The colours of vaginal discharge: What do they indicate?
Vaginal discharge is most often a regular occurence. Nevertheless, it still raises common questions for women, including what is normal and what is not.
What is vaginal discharge?
Vaginal discharge serves an important housekeeping function in the female reproductive system. It is a combination of fluid and cells made by the glands inside the vagina cervix that carries away dead cells and bacteria.
Normal vaginal discharge varies in amount, consistency and colour (clear and watery to milky). On the other hand, an unusual appearance of vaginal dischargea with foul and fishy odour may be a sign of an infection.
Below are the colours of vaginal discharge and what they indicate.
