When haze started to plague Malaysia early last month, everyone was hoping that it would take no more than a month for the air to be free from the respiratory problem-causing polluted air.

But this is just merely an expectation based on the previous annual haze histories, and in truth, instead of getting better, the haze situation in Malaysia is really not looking good.

According to the Department of Environment’s (DOE), the air pollution index (API) for a total of eight areas across the nation recorded “very unhealthy” readings, while 35 places were marked “unhealthy” as of Wednesday (Sept 18) morning.

“Among the areas with the worse air quality at 10am, Sept 18: Selangor’s Johan Setia (API 261), Shah Alam (221) and Petaling Jaya (206); Sri Aman in Sarawak (233); Minden (203) and Balik Pulau (API 225) on Pulau Pinang; Nilai in Negeri Sembilan (209); and Putrajaya (202).”

With the air in Malaysia worsening, we need to ensure that we are at least protected from the severely polluted air.

Refer to the infographic below for some tips on how you can beat the haze. (Produced by Ministry of Health Malaysia)
