  • Telehealth: The new normal for Malaysian?

Adapting to the recent pandemic, the use of teleconsultation in Malaysia is on the rise. Teleconsultation services utilise advancing technology to provide a platform for the community to consult a doctor on-the-go and without a hassle. According to reliable sources, the growth of the major telemedicine platforms in Malaysia had increased by at least 100%-200% since the pandemic started. More and more users are willing to try and adapt teleconsultation service while obeying to the social distance guideline.

Following the movement control order (MCO), teleconsultation is one of the effective ways to seek medical advice or refill medications. Using telemedicine service, the public will not need to travel to any clinics or hospitals, avoiding the risk of crowd gathering and disease spreading. Nonetheless, the rise of teleconsultation services not only benefit the younger “Generation Z”, but also the elder populations.

 

During the MCO period, it’s a burden for the high-risk populations (i.e., elderly patients with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol) to visit the hospital to refill their long term medications. On the contrary, teleconsultation platforms provide medication delivery service to their convenience. Just like purchasing your headphone on an online shopping platform, these teleconsultation platforms allowed their user to refill their medication in a few clicks. All you need to do is to sit and wait for your parcel!

 

For instance, Doc2Us®, one of the teleconsultation platforms in Malaysia, provides same-day medication delivery service in Malaysia.

 

Although teleconsultation services provide various benefits such as

  1. providing online diagnosis,
  2. medical cost reduction, and
  3. lowering the risk of virus spread,

“There are still limitations that virtual online consultations couldn’t achieve,” according to Dr Raymond Choy, the CEO of Doc2Us®, who just set up their first physical clinic in Seremban last year. He reckons the importance of physical clinic and understands that it will be impossible to diagnose every disease via teleconsultation. “If you came to us online with bleeding or other urgent symptoms, we would not attempt to provide virtual solutions, but refer you to your nearest doctor,” he added. Raymond and his business partner are looking forward to integrate their teleconsultation service with physical medical practice and are planning to set up another physical clinic in Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya area in the future.

As far as we know, the common rate for teleconsultation service is around RM 20 per consultation. However, there is no charge for the consultation service provided by Doc2Us® in “MySejahtera” app for Covid-19 related matters.

 

Other than providing online consultation services to the public, teleconsultation platforms, such as Doc2Us® also partnered with banks, corporate customers, and insurance companies to provide online medical services for corporate employees and insurance company customers. They aim to provide cost-effective solutions for companies to reduce their healthcare expenses.

 

Ministry of Health (MoH) has partnered with Doc2Us® to provide FREE virtual consultation service on Covid-19 related matters via the “MySejahtera” app.

This service is still available to date, working 24/7 to answer the public’s concern.

 

Nonetheless, during this period, it’s very critical for us to obey the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to protect ourselves and our family.
