As Malaysia is still under a Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) until 9th June 2020, this year’s celebration will be noticeably different from previous years, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it as lively as possible. Let’s not let the virus dampen this Eid as we are living the new normal.

Here are ways to make a memorable Raya celebration without breaching the social distancing measures and strict hygiene habits.

Contactless Raya

Giving salam when we meet our loved ones will be a tad different this year due to social distancing. Prior to isolation, it was common to see people shaking hands, hugging and kissing cheeks when they meet. However, let’s try to salam from afar and minimize contact by placing our hands over our hearts.

Drive-by open house

Have your close families, relatives or best friends to your house via drive thru. Wait, what? Just like at McDonald’s or KFC, they will stop by the front the house. Instead of ordering food, you give your salam raya from afar, and then they can collect their kuih raya and/or raya gifts from a table.

Practice good hygiene habits

Always ensure to wear mask when visiting for Hari Raya. Remember to wash your hands before and after shaking hands, eating, and leaving the house.

Connect with your loved ones virtually via video calls

Just because you can’t be physically present with your loved ones this Hari Raya, doesn’t mean you can’t spend quality time with them virtually. Thanks to technology, you can call via Zoom, Meet, Skype, WhatsApp or other video conferencing platform.

Duit raya via e-wallet

Traditionally, duit raya is given in the form of cash sealed in envelopes. This year let’s go cashless and contactless as part of the new normal. Be it near or far, you can send eDuit Raya via e-wallet apps such as Touch n’ Go, Maybank and GrabPay. This is more environmentally friendly than the traditional way.

Do not be disheartened that your Raya won’t be the same this year, as when we are victorious we will be reunited with our loved ones. So, for now, we Malaysians will need to do our part to combat the Covid-19.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin from Doc2Us! Stay safe this festive season.
